Inside the lock

Cut to the millimetre. Turns first time.

  1. Five pins hold it shut. Spring-loaded driver pins sit across the shear line, so the plug can't turn.
  2. Each cut lifts one pin. As the key slides in, its cuts push every pin stack up and down.
  3. Every gap meets the shear line. Only the right depths line all five pins up at once.
  4. The plug turns. That's why we cut keys to your car's code, not by eye.

FAQ

Questions people ask us.

How much does a replacement car key cost?

It depends on the make, model, year and type of key. A basic blade key costs much less than a smart key. Call us with your car's details and we'll give you a fixed price before we set off.

Can you make a key if I've lost all of them?

Yes. We can cut a new key from your car's lock or key code and program it to the immobiliser, even with no original key to copy.

What do I need to show you?

Photo ID such as a driving licence, plus the V5C logbook or other proof that the car is yours. We check this on every job to keep cars safe from theft.

How long does it take?

Most new keys are cut and programmed on site in under an hour once we arrive. Some newer or less common cars can take longer, and we'll tell you up front.

Do you work on prestige and performance cars?

Yes. Tell us the make, model and year when you call and we'll confirm what we can do for that car before we come out.

Is it cheaper than going to a main dealer?

Usually, yes. You also avoid towing the car to the dealer and waiting days for a key to be ordered in.

Will opening my car damage it?

No. We use specialist non-destructive entry tools designed for car locks and doors, so there's no forcing and no broken glass.

My keys were stolen. Can the old ones still start the car?

We can remove lost or stolen keys from the car's memory when we program the new ones, so the old keys won't start it. Report a theft to the police first and keep the crime reference number.
